Pop Dem Pills!

The Cleveland Show, S03E13

I didn't realize until I was writing this that this is the first episode I've liked with almost no Rallo scenes in a long time.  Usually, I'd complain about how there needed to be more Rallo, but I was satisfied just with those few seconds that showed him in a cute little 70s suit and glasses.  The episode was mostly about Cleveland and him finding himself addicted to trucker pep pills.  I was equally surprised that this was a good episode to me, as I was surprised that the story would be about him losing control over some drugs.

I liked when Cleveland rips up a lotto ticket, despite he wins a sizable amount from it:
$5000?  That's not enough to quit my job.
It's funny because I can feel him on that.  What's the point if you still have to keep living from paycheck to paycheck?  However, I wouldn't turn my nose away from anything that was $5 or more.  Cleveland is a nut.

Donna tells Cleveland that he needs to go to rehab, and he responds with Amy Winehouse's lyrics of "No, no, no."  What makes it funny isn't really anything about the singer's tragedy, but that when anyone mentions rehab, that song will instantly come to my mind.  It's kinda of required that you start singing the chorus.  His time at rehab, however, wasn't that eventful.  The best thing was that Hank Hill was there and voiced by his actual actor, Mike Judge:
I huff propane.
Freaking hilarious.  If there's one thing that you'll remember about Hank Hill is his obsession with propane.  I love when the FOX shows pay respect to their "brothers."  Although, I will have to say that when Family Guy did a little Simpsons cutaway, it was disturbing (Quagmire pretty much raping Marge--ugh).

The best part of Cleveland getting captured by the pirates was his interaction with the captain or whoever that guy was that kept talking to him.  At first they were talking about Mad Men and how Pete Campbell was such a weasel (so true!!), but then Cleveland kept being annoying with his question-formed responses that irritated the man.  At the end when Cleveland used the power of his pills to take out all the pirates before they killed and/or robbed everyone on the cruise boat, they had another similar conversation that was funnier than the first:
[Pirate] You have defeated us.
[Cleveland] Have I?
[Pirate] Yes--I hate you!
[Cleveland] Do you?
This totally reminds me of something I did to my sister.  Talking like Cleveland did is a really easy way to make someone blow their top when they are trying to talk to you in a serious way.

This was a good episode, even though it lacked Rallo, because it didn't have a lot of Donna or Roberta, and it wasn't about Cleveland screwing anyone over in particular (like his kids or his wife).  It was just Cleveland being insane, and I like that the best.  Of course, as this is about Cleveland's family, I know that most of the stories are probably going to be about him trying to deceive his family or him treating them like crap.  It's kind of a rule of thumb for these Seth MacFarlane shows.  I can't really expect a lot of them to be in the comedic style that I enjoy most.
