This week's episode was mainly about Jess and Julia becoming friends (or not). I actually thought based on some of the other episodes that they might like each other, but from this episode I could see that they had a lot of differences that would probably hinder a friendship. Julia is a more practical, straight-line kind of girl, whereas Jess is more cutesy and fancy-free girl. I knew that Jess would not be able to look past Julia's "dessert problem." She declared she didn't really care for them, and Jess couldn't comprehend how someone couldn't be tempted by the cupcakes and cookies that Jess shoved in her face.
While Nick was being resistant about defining his relationship with Julia that was clearly becoming more meaningful, I noticed there was a similar pattern happening. When Jess and her ex-boyfriend were getting a bit more serious, Nick and he (I forget his name at the moment) didn't get along. The same thing is happening with Jess and Nick's situations reversed. Furthermore, after Jess wastes Julia's time at court by blurting out that she was guilty, Julia confronts Jess with the idea that she is plotting to get Nick (with her coddling, bubble gum style). I know there is some chemistry between Jess and Nick, and it won't be a surprise that they end up together one day. Julia's outburst just seems to foreshadow it for me.
Anyway, Julia and Jess both get their feelings about each other off their chests. There were a lot of great lines exchanged between the two of them. Three of my favorites from Jess are below:
I don't talk like Teddy Ruxpin!
I have touched glitter in the last 24 hours.
My checks have baby farm animals on them, bitch!Later, Julia comes to the apartment and joins Jess and her friends in crocheting. I like Jess' friends. The way that they supported her in the dessert thing was funny. Especially in the way that they interact with Schmidt.
So let's talk about Schmidt in this episode. There's nothing more that I love about his character than his OCD tendencies. This episode he was having a tantrum about his towel being damp. He started going off in a rant at Julia and Jess, proclaiming that there should not be 2 girls in the bathroom. Somehow the girls were causing more humidity. What, Schmidt? When Jess and her girlfriends were discussing Julia in another scene, Schmidt had a great moment where he ran into the room upon hearing the phrase "lesbian community." Surprised that doesn't warrant some money to go into the douche bag jar. The last and best Schmidt moment was when the damp towel issue came full circle. Upon Jess's suggestion that they use a towel rack instead of a hook to keep the towels dry, Schmidt again finds that his towel is damp! Turns out that Nick has been using his towel, and the two have been unknowingly sharing the towel! Schmidt lost it, and I loved it! Nick wasn't even washing the towel (he believes that the towel cleans him so there's no need?). Apparently washing a towel is as ridiculous as cleaning a bar of soap. Nick is a weird, but hilarious guy. I'd date someone like him, but I wouldn't share a bathroom with him.
I still can't get myself to love Winston. He's still the weakest character to me. He was trying to get some game back this week, but his story was so boring that I won't really say much about it. I wonder when his character is going to get good.
I'm foreseeing some more bumps in the road for Julia and Nick. Although, if he hasn't broken up with her after her little anger problem in that other episode then I don't know what will send him packing. Julia will probably dump him after noticing his feelings for Jess. Predictable pattern, but that's the kind of vibe this show is sending to me right now.
